Privacy notice
This page explains, in plain English, what Econ Olympiad Prep stores about you and why. If anything here is unclear, ask us (see "Questions" at the bottom).
The short version
- You can use almost everything without an account. Your progress stays on your own device.
- If you make an account, we store your email address and nothing else about who you are.
- We never sell your data, show adverts, or use tracking cookies.
- There are no public profiles, no leaderboards with names, and no messages between users.
- You can delete your account, and everything linked to it, at any time.
If you do not have an account
On your device. Your answers, mock scores, the flashcards you know, your practice filters and any free response answer you are still writing are saved in your browser on this device. We also save a random code for your browser, which is used only for the daily AI marking limit (see below). You can clear all of this in your browser settings.
On our server. When you answer a multiple choice question, we save which question it was, which option you picked, whether it was right, how long you took and when. Nothing that identifies you is saved with it: no name, no email and no device code. We use these answers to work out how hard each question really is.
AI marking. When you ask for a free response answer to be marked, your answer and the question are sent to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI, which marks it. We do not keep your answer afterwards if you do not have an account. To stop anyone using up the free marking, we keep a scrambled code made from your browser's random code and your internet address for two days. The scrambled code cannot be turned back into your internet address.
Bot check. The sign-in form, AI marking and question submissions use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that you are a person and not a bot. Cloudflare sees your internet address and some technical details about your browser to do this.
If you make an account
You must be 13 or older to make an account.
What we store:
- Your email address, so we can sign you in and send you messages about your account.
- Your answers and mock scores, so you can see your progress on any device.
- Free response answers you have had marked, with the AI marks and any human marks and feedback.
- Which flashcards you have marked as known.
If you sign in with Google, we keep only your email address from your Google account. We remove your name and profile picture.
Cookies. When you are signed in, we use one cookie to keep you signed in. It is needed for the account to work and is not used for anything else.
Emails. We send sign-in links, and a message when a human marker has marked your answer. These are sent through a service called Resend.
Submitting a question
If you submit a question, we store it with your account so you can see whether it was accepted. It is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI, which checks it and suggests whether to publish it, and then a person decides. If it is published, it appears as a community question without your name. If you delete your account, your submissions are deleted too, but a question that has already been published stays on the site, still without your name.
Human marking
If you send an answer to a human marker, they see your answer, the question and the AI's marks. They do not see your name or email address. You do not see who marked your work, and there is no way for markers and students to message each other.
Counting visitors
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count how many people visit each page. It does not use cookies and does not follow you to other websites.
Who helps us run the site
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Supabase stores the database and handles sign-in.
- Anthropic marks free response answers with AI and checks submitted questions.
- Cloudflare runs the bot check.
- Resend sends emails.
- Google signs you in, only if you choose "Continue with Google".
They only use your data to provide their service to us.
How long we keep things
- Account data: until you delete your account.
- Answers saved without an account: kept, but they cannot be linked to you.
- Scrambled codes for the AI marking limit: two days.
- Backups of the database are kept privately by the person who runs the site.
Deleting your data
Go to your account page and choose "Delete my account". Your account and everything linked to it are deleted straight away. To remove what is saved on a device, tick "Also remove my progress from this device" when you sign out, or clear your browser's site data.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
